When Should I Bring My Child In?
As a parent of a toddler, you may be wondering when it’s appropriate to begin regular check and cleans. Typically, our dental professionals at The Tooth Affair like to see children when you believe all of their teeth have come in. Usually, that’s around the age of 2 or 3.
In reality, bringing them even earlier to our practice, to get them used to the sights, sounds and smells of the dentist office, is always a good idea. When Albury families visit us for their dental and oral health care needs, their children are welcomed to come along at the same time.
This sets a good foundation for future visits, when it’s their turn to become the focus of the dental team.
What to Expect During Your Child’s Appointment
During the first appointment, a full exam of the teeth, jaws, bite, gums, and oral tissues will likely be completed. We want to do a full assessment of their growth and development as well. Prevention is always better than the cure, so we place a marked emphasis on building a great foundation for the lifetime wellbeing of your oral health.
Creating healthy teeth and gums starts when you’re young. We offer check-ups and cleans, as well as services like fluoride and sealants for additional protection. We’ll also take an in-depth look at your child’s airways and tonsils, where we can provide early intervention or advice if needed.
Your child’s appointment will also allow us the chance to discuss any concerns you might have about speech, tongue posture, and thumb-sucking. Our dental team can also work with you to ensure that tooth brushing is carried out effectively. Abnormalities in how their teeth have erupted can also be identified and if needed, corrected or watched.
The Best in Technology For Your Child
Our practice prides itself on investing in the most advanced dental equipment and technology. This allows us to provide our patients with procedures that are both comfortable and highly successful.
Our new non-invasive laser caries detector can “see” through the enamel grooves of children’s (and adult) molars, identifying decay more accurately than X-rays. The latest in advanced air abrasion techniques are also used by our dental professionals to painlessly remove decay and restore teeth with tooth-coloured fillings.
